Twitter erupted late on June 24 as thousands of users began mourning and tweeting the hashtag “#RIPSouljaBoy.” So what’s going on here? Did the young rapper tragically pass away, or is he just the latest victim of the ever popular death hoax trend?
Well Soulja Boy is very much alive and kicking.
Thousands of people tweeted mournful messages after hearing that Soulja Boy had died. The hashtag “#RIPSouljaBoy” even began trending worldwide:
#RIPSouljaBoy cranked it all the way to heaven 😿😿

The “Soul” in Soulja Boy is gone… Rest in peace man. #RIPSouljaBoy — Chris (@Not_Like_Chris) June 24, 2014
This is not the first time that the internet has tried to declare Soulja Boy dead. In Feb. 2012, the same hashtag began trending on Twitter for no logical reason. Jeez, what does Twitter have against this guy!?
